Rutin, also known as rutin and vitamin P, whose molecular formula is C27H30O16, is a kind of natural flavonoid glycoside, belonging to flavonol glycosides widely existing in plants, and the two glycosides are glucose and rhamnose. The appearance is light yellow or light green needle crystal or crystalline powder. Soluble in pyridine, formyl and alkali liquor, slightly soluble in ethanol, acetone and ethyl acetate, almost insoluble in chloroform, ether, benzene, carbon disulfide and petroleum ether. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiallergic, antiviral and other effects.
Rutin is the rutin glycoside of quercetin, a flavonoid extracted from plants, which exists in rutin, tartary buckwheat, Locust Bud, Catalpa leaf, tomato stem, leaf and seed shell, etc, the dry buckwheat which is about to bloom contains about 3%, jujube, Hawthorn, ginkgo, medlar, motherwort, chaihu, Prunella, aloe, Gynostemma and so on all contain rutin.

Experiments show that rutin can antagonize the specific binding of PAF and rabbit platelet membrane receptor with concentration dependence, inhibit PAF-mediated rabbit platelet adhesion and increase of free Ca2 + concentration in PMNs, it shows that the mechanism of rutin's anti-PAF action is to inhibit the activation of PAF receptor and then block the reaction induced by PAF, thus playing a role in protecting cardiovascular system. The results show that rutin is a PAF receptor antagonist.
Rutin can effectively prevent hypocalcemia and reduce Ca2 + concentration in pancreatic tissue. Studies have found that rutin can increase the content of phospholipase A2(PLA2) in pancreatic tissue rats, suggesting that rutin may inhibit the release and activation of PLA2 in pancreatic tissue; Rutin can effectively prevent the occurrence of hypocalcemia in AP rats, it may be to reduce the pathological and physiological damage to AP by preventing Ca2 + internal flow and reducing Ca2 + overload of pancreatic tissue cells.
